John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is a quite complicated and intense film. It’s complicated in terms of the story, and it’s certainly intense in terms of action scenes that are spilled with blood.
The two-hour-10-minute film continues the story of a hitman named John Wick (Keanu Reeves) who survives from hunting. He is now a fugitive after killing one of the High Table members in neutral territory, the Continental Hotel in New York.
Time and place setting John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is closely related to John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017). After the kill, John is shown hurriedly. He ran to several places with the aim of meeting old friends to ask for help.
The story starts to get complicated when John meets with The Director (Anjelica Huston). It’s because The Director who never appeared in John Wick (2014) and John Wick: Chapter 2 looks familiar talking with John, even discussing the past between the two.
Through scene after scene indirectly, the movie shows the reason Wick decided to directly meet The Director after being appointed as a fugitive. Until finally he met another old friend, Sofia (Halle Berry). Sofia’s presence further complicates the story.
Moreover, he was not in the two previous films.
Dialogue between Sofia and John discussed much of the past. It makes the audience who haven’t watched John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 not understand their conversation.
On the other hand, it has quite complicated stories written by Derek Kolstad and Shay Hatten, but these stories are also intriguing. Through various deadly action scenes, the audience is made to wonder, whether John will survive at the end of the film? How did he defeat all his enemies?
These questions are actually answered slowly and simply through various scenes that make the audience keep thinking. Through the various scenes director Chad Stahelski also ‘forced’ the audience not to miss a minute of the film.
That’s for the sake of understanding the whole story.
